Lesson 1 Flashcards
chloroplasts
Organelles found only in the plant cells, in which sugar is made during photosynthesis
cell wall
A stiff outer layer that surrounds a plant cell, protect it, and gives it its shape
nucleus
The control center of a cell that directs the cell’s activities
chromosomes
They can be found in the nucleus and they carry the DNA
DNA
it a chemcial that provides detailed instructions for cell and DNA can be found in chromosomes
What is cell theory?
It has three parts:
- Cells are the building blocks of all living things .
- All life processes take place in cell.
- New cells are produced from existing cells.
How do the parts of a cell function?
- nucleus
- cell wall
- cytoplasm
- mitochondria
- cell membrane
- vacuole
- chloroplast
- nuclear membrane
nucleus: it controls of the cell.
cell wall: found is in plant cells. It can protect the cell and gives it its shape
cytoplasm: it is like jelly and it is clear.
mitochondria it is like a battry for the cells.
cell membrane:it is like a bag that holds everything in the cell
vacuole: it keeps the nutrients and wastes.
chloroplast: found only plant cells, photosynthesis happens here.
nuclear membrane:it holds the nulecus.
