Lesson 1-2 Flashcards
Five kinds of governmental or public entities
Federal Government
Airport authority
State government
Municipal or county government
Multipurpose port authority
International Civil Aviation for the purpose of providing source of communication and standardization among participating states with respect to civil aviation operations
International Civil Aviation Organization 1944 Chicago Convention
FAA was charged with preparing a new version of NASP, to be called NPIAS
Airport and Airway Act 1982
Revised the method of classifying airports, primarily to reflect the extreme growth in annual enplanements that a relative few of the largest airports were experiencing at the time
National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems
As of 2002, how many airports were classified in NPIAS
3364 airports
Measuring passenger activity Provides airport management with information that will allow for proper planning and management of facilities used by passengers, including terminals, parking garages, gate areas, and concessions
The number of passengers served at an airport
Often used to measure the amount of airport activity, and even evaluate the amount of funding to be provided for improvement projects
Annual enplanement
Typically used to measure the level of activity at airports that handle freight and mail
The amount of cargo carried
Used as a measure of activity at all airports but is the primary measure of activity at general aviation airports
The number of operations performed at an airport
Defined as take off or landing
Aircraft operation
Used to describe the number of passengers that board an aircraft at an airport
Enplanement
Used to describe the number of passengers that deplane an aircraft at an airport
Deplanement
Used to describe the number of passenger that either board or deplane an aircraft at an airport
Total passengers
Number of passenger is more than double the number of deplanements
Transfer passengers
Aircraft that is registered as “resident” of the airport
Based aircraft
Recommended standards for the operations and management of civil use airports are provided by the
International Civil Aviation Organization
In most individual countries, airports are managed directly by the federal government, most often under
Ministry of Transport
Categorized these airports on the basis of each airport’s number of annual enplanements and the type of service provided
National Airport System Plan
Public use airport enplaning at least 10,000 passengers annually in the United States
Commercial Service Airport
Atleast 2,500 and no more than 10,000 passenger boardings each year
Non-primary commercial service airport
Have more than 10,000 passenger boardings each year
Primary airport
Airports that account for at least 1% of the total annual passenger enplanements in the US
Large Hubs
Airports that account for at least 0.25% but less than 1% of the total annual passenger enplanements
Medium Hubs
Airports accommodating greater than 0.05% but less than 0.25% of annual US enplanements
Small hubs
