LESSON 1 Flashcards
It has definite shape and volume. Particles are tightly packed.
SOLID
It has indefinite shape and has definite volume. Particles are far from each other.
LIQUID
It is a matter that has a definite composition and distinct properties. It can either be an element or a compound.
Pure Substances
It is the simplest form of matter since it is composed of one kind of atom. It is a pure substance that cannot be decomposed into a simpler substance by ordinary chemical means.
Element
It is a chemical substance that forms when two or more different elements combine in a fixed ratio. An important characteristic of this is it has a chemical formula, which describes the ratio in which the atoms of each element in the compound occur.
Compound
They are made up of two or more substances combined physically in variable proportions.
Mixtures
It is also called a solution, is relatively uniform in composition. It is composed of a solute or the dissolved substance, and a solvent or the dissolving medium.
Homogeneous mixture
A mixture whose composition consist of 2 or more physically distinct phases.
Heterogeneous mixture
