Q

Strengths of content analysis

A
  • Has high ecological validity because it’s based on observation on what people do.
  • Sources can be accessed by others, the content analysis can be replicated and therefore the observations can be tested for reliability.

Q

Weaknesses of content analysis

A
  • Researchers can still be biased when putting the data into categories which reduces the reliability and validity of data because different researchers may interpret the meaning of data differently.
  • Cultural differences may contribute to inconsistent interpretation of behaviour coding since language may be translated and interpreted differently from someone else.

Q

Strengths and weaknesses of thematic analysis

A

Strength - high ecological validity, much of the analysis that takes place are basing their observations on real-life behaviour.
Weakness - can produce findings that are subjective, e.g. a researcher may interpret some things said in an interview in a completely different manner to how they were intended due to their own judgments.
