What is the definition of communication?
Exchange of information, verbally, written or through another median.
What is the definition of negotiation?
- Discussions held to reach a compromise.
- Parties through informal or facilitated negotiation process agree to settle a dispute
What happens at a negotiation meeting?
- Both parties discuss their position
- All parties should maintain professionalism
- Calm setting
- Both parties should honour agreements
- Once terms agreed, should be put in writing.
Can you give me an example of a time when you have communicated well?
Whilst working on Ibex house I have been responsible for presenting the Tender Report. I made sure to communicate in an understandable manner using clear English and stopping to ensure the Client was happy to move on.

What is a safe person?
- Each individual assumes responsibility for their own, their colleagues and others health and safety whilst at work.
What is the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
- Primary piece of legislation in the UK
- Statutory duty on all employers to provide and maintain equipment and systems of work that are safe and without risk to the health and safety of employees
Aims to: - Secure H&S and welfare for people at work
- Control dangerous substances
- Control emissions
- Employers with 5 or more employees must have a written H&S doc
What are the CDM Regulations?
-Introduced in 2015
-Construction Design Management Regulations
-Ensure that health and safety issues are properly considered during a project’s development so that risk of harm to those who build, use and maintain structures is reduced.
-Apply to all building & construction work.
-All projects must have:
- Appropriately skilled workers
- Appropriately skilled supervisors & information
- Written construction phase plan
Who is the principal designer?
Responsible for planning and managing the design work phase and ensuring H&S is managed and considered at this phase.
Appointed ASAP to ensure design develops safely
What are the duties of the principal designer?
-Plan, manage, monitor & coordinate H&S
- Identify & elimate foreseeable risks
- Ensure client & designers are aware of their duties
- Advise client on bringing together pre-con information
- Provide relevant info to duty holders
- Liase with Principal Contractor in the management and coordination of the construction phase
What is the role of an auditor?
The auditor’s objectives are to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial statements as a whole are free from material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error, and to issue an auditor’s report that includes the auditor’s opinion.
What is the difference between profit and loss account and a balance sheet?
-A profit and loss sheet is income minus expenditure over a defined period of time (usually a year)
- A balance sheet is assets minus liabilities and can be at any given point.
What are the principles of a cashflow forecast?
Definition - estimate of the timing and amount of cash inflows and outflows from a project / company.
What is a business plan?
A formal statement of the business’s goals with reasons why they are thought to be attainable and the plan for reaching the goals
What is the definition of meditation?
Mediation is a process wherein the parties meet with a mutually selected impartial and neutral person who assists them in the negotiation of their differences.
