Lesson 1 Flashcards
Anabolic
Small molecules are assembled into large ones. Energy is required
When an organism builds complex molecules from simpler ones.
Catabolic
Large molecules are broken down into small ones. Energy is released.
When an organism breaks down complex molecules (as happens in digestion).
Asexual
When a living thing essentially have just one parent
Sexual
When a living thing is genetic combination of two parents.
What is the characteristic of living things
- Organizations
- Metabolism
- Homeostasis
- Grow and Regulate Growth
- Reproduce
- Respond to their environmental
- Adapt and evolve as a population
Cell theory
All living organisms are made up of one or more cells
All cells arise from other, preexisting cells
Fact
Data. An observation, a number, a measurement, a reading
ex. I am 5’4”, it id 72 degrees F
Hypothesis
A proposed explanation for a phenomenon that can be tested.
ex. Ants are attracted to sugar
Theory
A hypothesis that has been tested and supported so many times that is considered our current working explanation for a set of observation.
Scientific Theory
If we test a hypothesis enough times that we have a high level of confidence that it accurately describes the data we’ve collected and if we have tried but failed to disprove it
Scientific Method
Observe a phenomenon THEN form a hypothesis to explain it THEN design an experiment to test your hypothesis
Inductive Reasoning
Is the process taking a series of a specific observation, and from them, drawing a general conclusion
Inductive Reasoning
- Observation
- Pattern
- Tentative Hypothesis
- Theory
Deductive Reasoning
Is the process of taking a generalization you accept to be true and making a specific conclusion.
Deductive Reasoning
- Theory
- Hypothesis
- Observation
- Confirmation
