Lesson 02 – Intralogistics Flashcards
What is logistics?
Process of planning, implementing, and controlling the efficient, effective flow and storage of goods, services, and related information from point of origin to point of consumption for the purpose of meeting customer requirements.
Define a process. And explain why logistic is considered a process
Sequence of systematic interdependent and linked procedures, steps, tasks, activities and tasks which, exploiting resources (employee, time, money, machine, energie,…) and under certain constraints are performed iinn order to convert inputs (data material parts) into outputs.
These outputs will be the inputs for the next stage until a known goal or end is reached
Why is traceability important in logistics?
process that makes it possible to find trace of various steps and locations a product has passed through from its creation to final disposal.
example:
- all of manufacturing steps.
- sources of its components and its suppliers.
Please define inbound, outbound
- Inbound: refers to transport, storage and delivery of goods coming into a business
- Outbound: same for goods going out a business.
Define Intra-logistics and extra-logistics
Intra: Internal material flow between different logistic HUBs – from material flow in production, in goods distribution centers and in airports and seaports
Extra:
intermodal is movement of cargo from origin to destination by several modes of transport where each of these modes have different transport provider with own independent contract (multiple carries)
multimodal ‘’ under single contract. Single carrier during single journey
transshipment: is the shipment of goods or containers to an intermediate destination, then to yet another destination.
How would you choose between rail, truck or air transport ?
Main variables?
- Cost of transport
- Reliability and regularity of service (urgency and speed)
- Safety
- Characteristics of good (size and weight).
Define commissioning and the two principles of commissioning.
-Commissioning: collection and consolidation of required quantities from an assortment of articles due to given orders.
- Man to good
- Good to man
