Lens Glaucoma Flashcards
What is a common presentation of a lens dislocated into the anterior chamber?
A lens fully or partially dislocated into the anterior chamber will usually be evident.
Acute pupillary block will cause a sudden severe elevation of IOP with associated visual impairment.
What imaging technique may be diagnostic for lens dislocation?
Imaging such as ultrasound biomicroscopy may be diagnostic.
What is the initial treatment for lens dislocation?
The IOP is initially reduced with osmotic agents, which reduce vitreous volume.
What should the patient do in the initial treatment of lens dislocation?
The patient should adopt a supine posture with the pupil dilated to attempt to reposition the lens in the posterior chamber.
What may be necessary if lens extraction is required?
Definitive treatment consists of surgical lens extraction.
What type of intraocular lens may be used after lens extraction?
An anterior chamber IOL, iris- or sclera-fixated IOL may be used.
What can prolonged lens-ticulocorneal contact cause?
Prolonged lens-ticulocorneal contact, particularly in the presence of high IOP, may cause permanent endothelial damage.
