Q

Nephi

A

The righteous son of Lehi, who led the family out of Jerusalem, and guided them through the wilderness. He prayed to know the mysteries of God and was visited by Him. Because of his physical and spiritual strength he was able to retrieve the plates of brass from Laban, convince Ishmael’s family to follow them in the wilderness, build a ship, and establish a group of righteous people in the new land. He loved the words of Isaiah and the people love him so much they named every successive king after him.

17
Q

Daughter of Ishmael (Nephi’s Wife)

A

Married Nephi and had children. Begged Laman and Lemuel to untie Nephi during the sea voyage, and remained faithful to him after the family separated.

18
Q

Jacob

A

Born in the wilderness, he made the difficult journey to the Americas as a young child. He was often treated rudely by Laman and Lemuel. In his 20s he was appointed priest and teacher over his people, and challenged them to repent. He kept the sacred records after Nephi.

19
Q

Joseph

A

Born in the wilderness, he was the youngest son in the family. He was named after two great prophets, Joseph of Egypt, and future prophet Joseph Smith. Before his father’s death he was told to hearken unto the words of his brother Nephi. Like his brother Jacob, he became a priest and teacher in his 20s and served the Lord.

20
Q

Lemuel

A

Second son, who sided with Laman in the disputes. He and Laman were reproved by an angel for hitting their younger brothers. They were also shocked by the power of God when they tried to kill Nephi. The Lord placed a mark upon the children of Laman and Lemuel to discourage the Nephites from marrying them.
