A box into which a proposed legislative bill is dropped and thereby officially introduced
Hopper
To postpone or suspend consideration of a motion
Table
An action such as a prolonged speech that obstructs progress in a legislative assembly while not technically contravening the required procedures
Filibuster
A committee whose members are from two or more different organizations, or from both chambers of a bicameral legislative body (such as the US Congress)
Joint Committee
A constitutional right to reject a decision or proposal made by a law-making body
Veto
Use one’s authority to reject or cancel (a decision, view, etc)
Override
A draft of a proposed law presented to parliament for discussion
Bill
An indirect veto of a legislative bill by the president or a governor by retaining the bill unsigned until it is too late for it to be dealt with during the legislative session.
Pocket Veto
What is the legislative process?
-A bill is introduced
-Committee meets to discuss
-Full Chamber for further discussion, amending, and voting
-Goes to the other house
-Both chambers vote on final bill
-Bill goes to the president, where he signs, vetoes, or ignores.
-If he vetoes, Congress can override with 2/3 vote.
