What is the function of the Legislative Branch?
To create bills (soon to be laws) that promote the general welfare of America.
What is the Legislative Branch made up of?
It is a Bicameral system with two sides, The House of Representatives and The Senate.
Where is the House of Reps. and The Senate?
The Capitol Building in Washington D.C.
Who are the Constituents?
Constituents are the citizens of Districts that the people in the House represent.
What is the Job of a representative?
The job of the representative is to express the needs, wants, and interests of the Constituents.
What is a Political Party?
A Political Party is a group of people that share similar interests when it comes to the government and the top two parties are Democrat and Republican.
What are Interest Groups?
Interest Groups are organizations that a congressmen could donate to that cause and in return they would support them in the next election.
What are Lobbyists?
Lobbyists are the people who take action in their cause, for example Alice Paul (not Alice Copper, she’s different) she stood in front of the White House demanding women’s suffrage.
What are some memberships or leadership roles in the House of Representatives?
The leadership roles in the H.O.R. are the Speaker of the House, Majority Floor Leader, Minority Floor Leader, Majority Whip, and the Minority Whip.
What are the Terms and Qualifications that are required to be in the H.O.R.?
Before you can go into an election you need to be living in the Congressional District that you would represent, you must be 25 years of age, and be a citizen of the United States for at minimum for 7 years. After being elected you serve a two year term as a representative.
What is a census?
A population test that happens every 10 years.
What is redistricting?
To re-draw the lines of congressional districts.
What is Gerrymandering?
In the time of redistricting when a political party re-draw the lines to benefit them in the new election.
What are the leadership roles in the Senate?
The leadership roles in the senate are the Vice President, the President Pro Tempore, majority floor leader, minority floor leader, majority whip, and the minority whip.
What Congressional district do we live in?
The 7th district out of 12.
