Age discrimination of Employment Act, 1967
protects certain applicants and employees 40 years of age and older from discrimination on the basis of age in hiring, promotion, discharge, compensation, or terms, conditions or privileges of employment.
Americans with Disabilities 1990
Also know as the ADA is a law passed by legislation to prevent discrimination of any people with disability’s in all walks of life. This includes work, school, transportation, etc.
Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002 (BCRA or McCain-Feingold)
a United States federal law that amended the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971, which regulates the financing of political campaigns.
Brady Act 1993
Was enacted 1993 amending the gun control act of 1968. Mandated federal background checks on firearm purchases in the U.S and imposed a five day waiting period on purchases.
Budget Reform and Impoundment Act of 1974
Established Congressional budgets and budget procedures also relating to the presidential impound of funds.
Civil Rights Act of 1964
Prohibits discrimination on a basis of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Establishes that all citizens of the United States have the same rights no matter what civil identification they have.
Clean Air Act of 1990
Set regulations for air pollution with the intent of protecting the environment and limit levels of air pollution.
Communications Decency Act 1996
Enacted in 1996, was enacted to attempt to prevent minors from gaining access to sexually explicit content on the internet. Acts as title V of the telecommunications act.
Electronic Freedom of Information Act 1996
Act that requires agencies to provide the public with electronic access to any of their “Reading Room” records that have been created by them.
Endangered Species Act 1973
provided for the conservation of ecosystems upon which threatened and endangered species of fish, wildlife, and plants depend.
Equal Pay Act of 1963
Act that addressed the wage differences between genders. Prohibits companies from paying men and women (who do similar work) different salaries
Family and Medical Leave Act 1993
The acts object was to grant people family and temporary leave under circumstances.
Federal Fair Housing Act 1968
The act expanded upon other acts that prohibited the discrimination of people when it come to fair houseing. While other acts specified that people may not be discriminated against, this act specifically targets that people may not be discriminated on the basis of race, gender, religion , etc… when it comes specifically to housing.
Freedom of Information Act 1966
Law that requires the full or partial disclosure of previously unreleased information and documents controlled by the United States government upon request. Essentially means that the U.S. Government must release information (to some degree) upon request.
Gulf of Tonkin Resolution
Resolution that gave President Johnson the authority to take any measures he saw fit to protect peace and security in Southeast Asia.
