Protocol
A type of protocol that is a written document signed by the EMS system’s medical director that outlines specific directions, permissions, and sometimes prohibitions regarding prehospital care that is rendered prior to contacting direct medical control.
standing order
The exhaustion of physical or emotional strength.
Burnout
An event that overwhelms the ability to cope with the experience, either at the scene or later.
Critical Incident
A type of stress that a person finds overwhelming and debilitating
Distress
A type of stress that motivates a person to achieve
Eustress
A delayed stress reaction before an incident, often the result of one or more unresolved issues concerning the incident
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Blaming unacceptable feelings, motives, or desires on others.
Projection
Protective measures for dealing with objects, blood, body fluids, or other potential exposure risks of communicable disease.
Routine Precautions
A nonspecific response of the body to any demand made upon it
Stress
Any agent or situation that causes stress
Stressor
Collection of the methods, skills, and activities neccessary to determine wether a service or program is needed, likely to be used, conducted as planned, and actually helps people.
evaluation
Any unintentional or intentional damage to the body resulting for acute exposure to thermal, mechanical, electrical or chemical energy or from the absence of such essentials as heat or oxygen.
injuries
Characteristics of people, behaviors, or environments that increase the chances of disease or injury. Examples are alcohol use, poverty, or gender.
Risk Factors
Intentionally making a false statement, through written or verbal communication which injures a person’s good name or reputation
Defamation
A legally binding, written order for health care providers not to provide life-saving measures during cardiac or respiratory arrest; may be created by the physician, the patient, or the patient’s substitute decision-maker.
do not resuscitate order (DNR)
Legal obligation of public and certain other ambulance services to respond to a call for help in their jurisdiction.
