What are the 7 SRA Principles?
to act:
1. in a way that upholds the constitutional principle of the rule of law, and the proper administration of justice.
- in a way that upholds public trust and confidence in the solicitors’ profession and in legal services provided by authorised persons.
- with independence.
- with honesty.
- with integrity.
- in a way that encourages equality, diversity and inclusion.
- in the best interests of each client.
If there is a conflict of the SRA principles, which take precedent?
Should they conflict, the principles which safeguard the wider public interest take priority over the interest of an individual client.
Who does the SRA Principles apply to?
Apply to legal professionals in their personal as well as professional lives.
What does the CCS stand for?
Code of Conduct for Solicitors, Registered European Lawyers and Registered Foreign Lawyers
Who is responsible for compliance with the CCS?
You are personally responsible for compliance with the CCS
Who does the CCS apply to?
Individuals authorised by the SRA to provide legal services including solicitors, paralegals and apprentices
What is the CCF?
Code of Conduct for Firms
What are the consequences for failing to meet the standards set out in the CCF?
SRA may take regulatory action against the firm itself, its managers or compliance officers. They may also take action against employees for any breaches for which they are responsible.
