The Data Protection Act
Anyone who stores personal details must keep them secure. Data controllers must ensure they follow eight principles.
What are the eight principles for the DPA
1) Data should be obtained and processed fairly and lawfully
2) Can be held only for specified and lawful purposes
3) Data should be adequate, relevant and not excessive
4) Should be accurate and up to date
5) data should not be kept for longer than necessary
6) people have the right to inspect the information being held on them
