A

Costs incurred in legal proceedings which are ordered to be paid by the unsuccessful party to the successful party

What are attorney and client costs?

A

Costs which an attorney is entitled to recover from his client for disbursements and professional services rendered.

They are payable by the client whatever the outcome of the matter and does not depend on any award of costs by the court.

Includes the costs, charges and expenses beteen the Attorney and client which the ordinary client cannot recover from the other party.

What are attorney and own client costs?

A

Remuneration that an Attorney is entitled to in terms of an agreement or mandate with client. Remunerated according to a predetermined fee (ex: hourly rate outside the prescribed tariff).

What does pro amico mean?

A

Free representation for a client who has particular relationship with the attorney (friend, relative or colleague). Cannot charge fees but can recover disbursements.
If there is no particular relationship between the attorney and the client then it could be considered indirect touting.
