Refers to creation of mind, such as inventions, literary and artistic works, design, and symbols, names, and images used in commerce

What is a copyright?
- exclusive right to produce, reproduce, perform, and deliver original creative works, or a substantial part of them in any form
- original works are automatically protected by copyright law on création, but you could obtain certificate
What is a trademark?
- law governs the use of marks including sounds, designs…. Associated with company products and services
- good to distinguish company goods and services
- right to use mark for 15 years, possibility of renewal
What are industrial designs
- visual characteristics or appearance of a product
- exclusive right shoe up to 10 years in can
Registration must be made within 1 year of the initial publication of design
What are patents
Protect new, non obvious, and useful inventions
- granted right of monopoly in the market place for specified amount of time
- must apply
- complex and time-consuming
What is a trade secret
- confidential business info, knowledge has intrinsic value
- info disclosed
- no registration process
