Cities Alexander founded acted as permanent markers for his conquests
His coinage ‘gold strater’ linked Asia, Mod bosworth ‘ Alexander linked systems in the East and West, and thus transformed the isolated regions into a united market, which was further strengthened by the implementation of a common Greek language’
Alexandria in Egypt founded in 332 BC is still a major hub for economic trade -> its prestiage still remians in the modern era
Current debates still over Alexander in Macedon and Greece over his heritage. With 2002 the Greeks having a poll, classifying Alexander as ‘The greatest Greek of all time’ -> icon for hellenic culture + patriotism.
Generalship
Known his success in generalship -> never lost a battle, especially againsts overwhelming numbers.
Name manifested in Pompey “theGreat” (106-48 BC) a notable Roman general due to their similarities in generalship and as he replicate Alexander life.
Plutarch states that Julius Caesar was moved to tears by Alexander’s success,
Napoleon Bonaparte has a photograph in which the background has a bust of Alexander -> ‘he couldn’t live up to the reputation of Alexander’
Mod historian Wilson “greatest and most famous figure in Greek history”, Alexander created a model of militaristic expansion and success in a universal legacy that was able to transcend time in various form
