Leg and Ankle Flashcards
Proximal Tibiofibular Joint
Synovial Joint- stabilized by anterior and posterior ligaments
Tibiofibular Joints
Proximal/Distal and Interosseous Membrane
Distal tibiofibular Joint
Syndesmosis- stabilized by ant and post tibiofibular ligaments
Interosseous Membrane
Provides stability to tibia and fibula
Talocrural Joint
Synovial joint (dorsiflexion and plantar flexion)
Subtalar Joint
Synovial Joint between talus and calcaneus (eversion and inversion)
Ligaments of Ankle
-Anterior talofibular
-Calcaneofibular
-Posterior talofibular
-Deltoid
Anterior Talofibular
Stabilize front of ankle (often sprained)
Calcaneofibular joint
Lateral stabilizer of ankle
Posterior talofibular ligament
stabilizes back of ankle
Deltoid Ligament
Medial Stabilizer with superficial and deep layers connecting the tibia to foot
Leg Compartments
Anterior, Lateral, Posterior
Anterior compartment
Dorsiflexion and toe extension (deep fibular nerve)
Lateral Compartment
Eversion of foot (superficial fibular nerve)
Posterior Compartment
Plantarflexion, inversion, and toe flexion (tibial nerve)
