3
Q

What happens in systolic?

A

Inability of the ventricle to contract normally causing a reduced ejection fraction <40%

Q

What happens in diastolic?

A

16
Q

What causes low output? (2)

A

Pump failures e.g B-blockers, heart block, previous MI

Or Excessive preload e.g Mitral regurgitation, fluid overload

17
Q

What is high output failure?

A

Cardiac output fails to meet the needs of the body

18
Q

What causes high output? (5)

A

Pregnancy, Anaemia, Hyperthyroid, Paget’s, Arteriovenous Malformation

19
Q

Drug Treatment (5)

A

Diuretics, ACE inhibitors, B-blocker, Digoxin, Vasodilators

20
Q

Other treatments (5)

A

Smoking cessation, reduce salt intake, optimise weight and nutrition, treat any causes e.g Anaemia

21
Q

Is there a good prognosis?

A

Not really, 25-30% die within 5 years of diagnosis, and symptom presentation generally means a decline
