Leeds university Flashcards
Why have you applied for Leeds University?
I looked at the reviews for Leeds uni, and most students said that they enjoyed the study areas including the Library which I think I would enjoy the most. In my sixth form currently we have a library but it is mainly used for teacher meetings and students in the lower years, also there is not enough space for everyone to study, therefore, would be looking forward to a better efficient area to complete my work. library is not up to standards for a sixth student.
Why have you chosen to pursue nursing?
All through my years of secondary school I’ve had always had the passion to help and care for others. This increased when my Grandfather in Ethiopia, become very sick. In Ethiopia, there isn’t that many qualified nursing staff, so he was left to look for himself most of the time. My dad and my auntie went over there to see him in his last days, they made a huge impact on his health by sticking by his side the whole time. To conclude, the fact that they weren’t nurses but still made him feel much better shows that being a nurse is about how much commitment and compassion do you have to support the people who are in your care.
What is the role of an Adult nurse?
Adult nurses develop and assist a persons quality of life. It is a rewarding profession as it provides a chance to make an improvement on someone’s life.
What skills do you have to become a Nurse?
I believe I have good communication skills and have the ability to listen to people at anytime. For example when looking after my sisters, communication is very important as they like to fight a lot. I learn from my mistakes, including taking feedback on board to improve my knowledge whilst working. Example - coursework
How do you cope with stress?
When i feel any type of stress, I usually take deep breaths and get plenty of sleep to relive me of all my worries. These happens before doing my exams or before doing an interview. Although I procrastinate during school times, with exams and coursework. I try and take a minute to make a studied timetable to organize what work I should do, this helps me get the work done faster.
What does confidentiality mean and why it is important?
Confidentiality means respecting someone’s privacy and abstaining from sharing personal or potentially sensitive information about an individual. It is central to the development of trust between the worker and the patient.
What do you know about current Nursing issues in the media?
Nurses are striking as they are getting paid less than they should. Nurses walked out for the first time in NHS history, as they protested over pay, conditions and patient safety. Nurses feel like it is not worth putting in that hard work to not get paid the right amount of money. However, the nurses are also striking for their patients, they feel like their safety is in jeopardy as they are understaff, this portrays the commitment and courage they have for their them
Can you think of a situation where your communication skills have been essential? Tell us more about the situation and how you contributed.
I volunteered to help the parents and their children who were interested in attending at my school.
