Lee (Lying) Flashcards
Aim
Test the effect of culture on children’s moral evaluations of lying and truth telling when comparing Chinese and Canadian children
Method
Laboratory experiment as the children were tested in a controlled setting and 2 IVs were manipulated
One IV was whether the ppt heard a social story or physical story (person or object)
The other IV was whether they heard a prosocial story (good deed) or an anti social story (bad deed)
DV was the rating given to the deed
Sample
120 Chinese children, 3 groups of 40 ged 7, 9 and 11.
108 Canadian elementary school children
Fairly large sample so is most likely representative so results can be generalised and have population validity
However they mainly only focus on middle class children so therefore lacks population validity
Procedure
Findings
Conclusions
Showed similar moral evaluations of lie telling and truth telling
Design
Independent measures design, only took part in one condition
