Lectures Flashcards
Are neurons excitable cells
yes
What do the Central and Peripheral nervous system consist of?
Central consists of the brain and spinal cord while the peripheral consists of the 12 cranial nerves and 31 pairs of spinal nerves ( 8 cervical 12 thoracic 5 lumbar 5 sacral 1 coccygeal)
What is the peripheral nervous system divided into?
Somatic and Vegetative (autonomic) which constitutes sympathetic and parasympathetic
Another name for neuronal cell body is?
Perikaryon
In the CNS how are perikarya organized?
Layers (6 layers of the cortex and laminae in the spinal cord). They are found in Nuclei (Caudate nucleus). They form a loose network called a reticular formation in the brainstem
In the peripheral nervous system how are perikarya organized
Ganglia… DRG
Function of wernicke’s area?
Wernicke’s area is a region of the brain that is associated with language comprehension and the processing of spoken and written language
Another name for wernicke’s area
Sensory speech cortex
