Normative Theory
Evaluates rather than merely explain.
Label things good or bad.
Deals with “should” or “ought to”.
Judges about government.
Empirical Theory
Based on observations or data.
Can be verified with evidence.
To explain observable phenomena with accuracy and precision.
Political Science is to
Determine how well American Normative Theory compares to the actual prarcticies of democracy.
To find ways to improve our lives through American Government.
