Lecture Three Flashcards
What are three types of stroke
Thrombosis (Thrombotic) (most common), Embolus (Embolic Stroke), (Cerebral) Hemorrhage
Which artery is most commonly affected in a CVA
Middle Cerebral Artery (MCA)
Which type of vascular injury has the following symptoms:
- symptoms subside in 24 hours
- no residual deficits or symptoms
- often a precursor to CVA or MI
- cause unknown but may be cerebral vasospasm or transient systemic arterial hypotension
TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack)
Two signs of a MCA stroke
Contralateral hemiplegia (UE - upper extremity), homonymous hemianopsia
Which condition is loss of field vision of one half of both eyes
Hemianopsia
Two signs of an ACA stroke
Sensory loss (LE - lower extremity), contralateral hemiparesis (LE), left-sided neglect, aphasia, apraxia
What are two signs of an ICA stroke
coma, death
Two signs of a vertebrobasilar stroke
Visual loss, homonymous hemianopsia, facial numbness, tinnitus, dysarthria, dysphagia, hemiparesis, sensory loss, loss of pain and temperature on opposite side
What are two techniques to inhibit tone
taping, slow rhythmic rocking
What are two techniques to increase tone
Isometrics and Isotonics
what are two upper extremity complicatons following a stroke
Shoulder subluxations, CRPS (complex regional pain syndrome)
what are some techniques to refine motor control in the late stage of stroke rehab
Biofeedback, electrical stim, cutaneous stim, PNF, joint mobs
