Lecture one terms and shit Flashcards
Arthrokinematics
movements that occur on the inside of a joint, or between articular surfaces
Osteokinematics
movement of the body in the anatomical planes
Component motions
motions that occur between articular surfaces
accessory movement
are arthrokinematic movements that must occur in order for normal osteokinematic movement to take place
pure swing
a movement in which the mechanical axis follows the path of a cord
impure swing
a pure swing with an element or spin, or rotation about the mechanical axis
conjunct rotation
the element of spin that accompanies the impure swing also the rotation that may occur with a succession of swings
Concave-convex rule
concave moving on convex: roll and glide in the same direction
convex on concave: roll and glide in opposite directions
Distraction
when 2 opposing articular surfaces are separating or moving away from each other
Axial distraction
distracting a joint along the long axis
lateral distraction
distraction of a joint by mobilizing perpendicular to the long axis
compression/approximation
when 2 opposing articular surfaces are moving towards each other
what are the absolute contraindications?
recent fracture neoplasm acute inflammatory disease joint sepsis bacterial infection acute pain during the manipulation
what is a Grade 1 glide or traction manipulation
initiation of movement of the opposing joint surfaces is either perpendicular to the joint surfaces or parallel. Non corrective
what is a Grade 2 glide or traction manipulation
movement of opposing joint surfaces is up to the first tissue stop. Non corrective.
