Lecture one Flashcards
Components of the blood vascular system
Heart, major arteries, veins, venules, capillaries, arterioles
Capillaries
Site of metabolic exchange between tissue and bloof
The layers of the heart
Endocardium
Myocardium
Epicardium
Types of capillaries
Continuous
Fenestrated
Sinusodial
Continuous capillary
Most common type, endothelium forms a soilds lining and it’s found in most organs
Fenestrated capillaries
Contains pores in the endothelium lining, it’s found in the small intestines and in kidney glomerlui
Sinusoidal capillaries
Has a wide diameter with wide gaps between the endothelium cells, it’s found in the liver and spleen
Types of arteries
Elastic, muscular and arterioles
Elastic arteries
They’re the largest blood vessel in the body, include the aorta, pulmonary trunk, common carotid, and sunclavian arteries.
Muscular arteries
Walls contain smooth muscle and include the named arteries with the exception of elasticelastic
ArterArteries
Arterioles
Are small blood vessels with 1-5 layer(S) of smooth muscle. Terminal arterioles deliver blood to the smallest blood vessels and capillaries
Structure of arteries
Tunica intima: consists of endothelium and subendothlial connective tissue
Tunica media: consists of smooth muscle fibers.
Tunica adventita: consists of collage and elastic fibers
Veins
Thin walls and a large diameter.
Structure of veins
Tunica intima:
Tunica media: is
thin and smooth muscle intermixes with connective tissue fibers.
Tunica adventita: thick layer with longitudinal smooth muscle fibers.
Venules
Larger lumen and thinner walls than arterioles
