Migration
The movement of an individual or group from one location to another.
Push Factors
Factors that make, cause or force people to migrate.
Pull Factors
Factors that attract people to new locations.
Migrant
A person who makes a conscious choice to leave his/her country of origin and live in another country.
Migrant Worker
A person who is to be engaged or is engaged in employment in a state where they are not a national.
Refugee
A person who is outside his or her own Country, crossed over international boarder, seeking asylum. Is fearful of prosecution due to race, religion, nationality or religious group.
Internationally Displaced Person
A person who has left their home but not their Country and therefore does not engage in international protection regime.
Refugee Status Determination
The process by which an individual or group is found to fit the Article 1A definition of a refugee.
Asylum Seeker
A individual who has left their home Country, crossed boarders. Fearful of persecution due to race, religion, political opinion, nationality. Seeking asylum in another Country
Altruism Effect
The experience of trauma and/or migration motivates people to help others and to contribute to society.
Vicarious Resilience
A term for positive meaning/making, growth and transformation in individuals due to exposure to another person’s trauma story.
