Lecture 9 Flashcards
1
Q
3 principles of networks analysis
A
- nodes and their behaviours are mutually dependent
- ties between nodes can be channels of transmission of both material and non-material products
- persistent patterns of association among nodes create structures that can define, enable or restrict the behaviour of nodes
2
Q
types of centralities
A
- degree of centrality (sum of value of the ties between a node and every other node)
- closeness centrality (length of path of a node to all other nodes)
- betweenness centrality (number of shortest paths in a network that pass through a node)
- eigenvector centrality (connection with an actor of power)
3
Q
how can we understand formation of new ties?
A
- structural balance
- structural equivalence
- homophily
- heterophily
- preferential attachment
4
Q
3 faces of relational power
A
- commanding change
- controlling agenda
- preference
