Lecture Flashcards
PASS
What are the 3 tunics of the blood vessels?
- Tunica Intima
- Tunica Media
- Tunica Externa
Elastic Arteries
AKA: Conducting Arteries
Largest Arteries-conduct blood from heart to muscular arteries.
EX: brachiocephalic,common carotid, subclavian
Muscular Arteries
AKA: Distributing Arteries
EX: Brachial artery, anterior tibial artery, coronary artery
Describe each Tunic
- Tunica Intima: Smooth surface, endothelium
- Tunica Media:Smooth muscle, vasocontriction, vasodilation.
- Tunica Externa: Anchors
What is the general function of capillaries?
Exchange between blood and tissue. ONLY place where exchange occurs.
Name the 3 types of capillaries found within the body.
Continuous, Fenestrated, Sinusoid
Describe and state the location of the capillaries in the body.
Continuous- found in most regions of the body, its a form of continuous lining.
Fenestrated- Contains pores in the endothelial lining. found where much fluid transport happens.
Sinusoid- Endothelial lining with large gaps. Found in the bone marrow, spleen, and some endocrine glands.
State whether each vessels are elastic or muscular arteries
a. Brachial artery- Muscular
b. Common carotid- Elastic
c. Coronary artery- muscular
d. Subclavian Artery- Elastic
e. Aorta- Elastic
f. Anterior tibial artery- muscular
g. Brachiocephalic artery- elastic
Increase in oxygen demand the precapillary sphincter will?
Dilate
Decrease in oxygen demand the precapillary sphincter will?
Constrict
What is the movement of blood through capillary bed?
Areriole-Metarteriole-Capillary Bed-Venule
What are varicose Veins?
loss of valve strength or weakening of walls of vein.
Blood pools
Hydrostatic Pressure
Force exerted by a fluid
Hydrostatic Pressure is the cause of?
Filtration
Colloid Osmotic Pressure
The pull on water due to the presence of protei soultes.
