Lecture 8 (IOT) Flashcards
Define IoT
Definition: A network of physical objects (such as devices, vehicles, and buildings) that are connected to the internet and can communicate and exchange data with each other.
What are the key components of IoT?
Key components: Electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity.
What are some other terminologies to describe IoT?
Other terms: Machine to Machine (M2M), Internet of Everything (IoE), World Size Web.
IoT Constraint devices;
IETF Definition:
* tools.ietf.org/html/rfc7228
* Limited processing power
* Unreliable networking
* Low power
* (so they can run on batteries)
IoT versus WSN :WSN
Wireless Sensor Networks
- Motivated by research
- Single-purpose
- Sink routing
- Many attempts at
“intelligent” intermediates
IoT versus WSN: IoT
IoT
- Motivated by application
- Multi-application
- Two-way communication
- Mostly end-to-end
