Lecture 8 ch 15 Flashcards
There are three main steps in the formal closure:
- Transition plan, it includes any instructions or documentation needed for the customer to successfully use the deliverable.
- Knowledge managment: Capture lessons learned and spread them.
- Create the closeout report.
What is meant by “validate scope”?
It is the formal process of accepting the quality of the deliverables.
- PMs should get approval from the customers that the project is complete to their satisfaction.
- comparing promises made in the charter, WBS, and schedule to what was actually delivered
The transition from executing to closing the project.
What does the CLOSE model stand for?
Contracts (close all),
Lessons learned,
Organization (Organize the documentation to benefit
the organization),
Success (find some to celebrate),
Evaluate (evaluate the performance and document).
Different reasons for why projects are terminated before successful completion?
Mutual agreement,
terminations for default,
terminations for convenience of buyer,
termination of integration (the project becomes a part of the organization),
termination by starvation (resources insufficient, specifically for the project and not only financial)
termination by murder (without warning)
termination by suspension (temporary termination)
What are post-project activities?
Provide ongoing support, reassign workers, celebrate the success / reward the members, ensure project benefits are realized
Why is it important to organize and archive project documentation after project completion?
To being able to analyze key data that could be helpful in bidding, planning or performing future projects.
Why is receiving customer feedback valuable?
This feedback is valuable in developing proposals for other projects with the same customer in the future.
When does a project move into the closing stage?
When the main project deliverable is formally accepted by the customer.
What is a punch list?
List of work items that are identified during a final inspection that needs to be completed.
Helps the customer to accept (if the punch list is short) or not formally accept the product (is the list is long)
What is a closeout report?
It is a report written at the closure of the project. It often includes:
Summary status of the project,
lessons learned, and
a review if the project accomplished what it was originally approved to do
What is an important task for the project manager at the closure of the project?
Helping the team members securing their next work/job. Recommending them to suiting projects in the organization and such.
What should a project manager refer back to in order to make sure that all planned work has, in fact, been completed?
The WBS and milestone list
During project closing, customers are asked both to accept the project deliverables and to….?
provide feedback
What is the first step in capturing lessons learned at the end of a project?
Asking team members and potential stakeholders to think of issues that have occurred during the project.
Then have a meeting and rank all of them and brainstorm solutions on how to avoid them in the future.
How is a transition plan similar to an instructions manual?
It is a description of how the customer is supposed to utilize the benefits of the project deliverable.
