Where does opium come from and what effects does it have?

Comes from the juice of the poppy and causes sleepiness, euphoria and pain-relief.

Reduce neuronal excitability by activating potassium channels and inhibiting calcium channels.

What class of receptor are opioid receptors?
A
GPCRs.

What effect to opioids have on the pupils?
A
Constrict them! Which is unusual as most recreational drugs cause dilated pupils.
