Describe the History of Tin Production in the UK

A

-Tin in English West Country
-Initially very small-scale
-In 1198, under Henry II tin-mining fell within “just and ancient customs of Devon and Cornwall”
-In 1201 under John I, tin-miners were only allowed to search for tin on any un-enclosed land
-Transition in 18/19th century employing industrial wage-labourers
-Raw and pressed tin was now property of commercial enterprises
-Competition and cheaper global production led to decline (by 1890s only 16 mines were open with less than 400 miners)
