Lecture 8 Flashcards
TAM (Technology Acceptance Model)
Looks at the question: what predicts one’s usage of technology?
- Perceived ease of use
- Perceived usefulness
Based on theory of planned behaviour: to perform a specific behaviour, you need intention.
Intention is conditional to parameters such as attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control.
Trust in algorithms vs. humans (Logg et al., 2019)
Researchers wanted to know whether algorithms were more trusted than human judgements when concerned with:
- Weight estimation
- Song rank
- Attractiveness of a prospective mate
- Weight again
- Age
Results showed a clear preference for love for the algorithm.
Automation bias
Overreliance on algorithmic advice, up to the point that human beings commit commission errors and omission errors (i.e., complacency).
Omission errors: occurs when an action is not taken when it should have been
Commission errors: occur when an incorrect action is taken. Involve doing something that should not have been done.
Studies showed that an internalised sense of accountability has an impact, where pilots who had a higher internal sense of accountability are less likely to be influenced by the automation bias.
