Lecture 7: SPECT - Brain and Bone Flashcards
1
Q
Briefly describe a HMPAO scan protocol? (6 marks)
A
- SPECT scan used to differentiate between different types of dementia
- 500 MBq of Tc-99m used
- ED of 5 mSv
- Assesses diffusion across blood-brain barrier
- High res collimator used as localisation is key
- use FBP to obtain the images
2
Q
Briefly describe a DATSCAN scan protocol? (6 marks)
A
- SPECT scan to assist with Parkinsons or DLB diagnosis
- Uses 185 MBq of I-123 Iofluplane
- ED of 4 mSv
- Binds to dopamine transporters
- LEHR collimator used
- FBP used
3
Q
Briefly describe a bone scan protocol? (4 marks)
A
- Used to show blood flow and bone crystallisation
- 600 MBq of Tc-99m MDP
- LEHR as localisation is key
- Use geometric mean of results as less prone to variability with distance
