Lecture 7: SPECT - Brain and Bone Flashcards

1
Q

Briefly describe a HMPAO scan protocol? (6 marks)

A
  • SPECT scan used to differentiate between different types of dementia
  • 500 MBq of Tc-99m used
  • ED of 5 mSv
  • Assesses diffusion across blood-brain barrier
  • High res collimator used as localisation is key
  • use FBP to obtain the images

Q

Briefly describe a DATSCAN scan protocol? (6 marks)

A
  • SPECT scan to assist with Parkinsons or DLB diagnosis
  • Uses 185 MBq of I-123 Iofluplane
  • ED of 4 mSv
  • Binds to dopamine transporters
  • LEHR collimator used

Q

Briefly describe a bone scan protocol? (4 marks)

A
  • Used to show blood flow and bone crystallisation
  • 600 MBq of Tc-99m MDP
  • LEHR as localisation is key
  • Use geometric mean of results as less prone to variability with distance
