Q

What are the features of the crustacea subphyla?

A

30,000 described species
Mostly marine and freshwater

Q

What are the features of the subphyla hexapoda?

A
This contains the class insecta which has over 1000000 described species with 2-50 million estimated undescribed
They are also mostly terrestrial and of major importance to ecosystems and humans

Q

What are the form and function features of insecta?

A

They are coelomate with a reduced coelom, the main body cavity is a haemocoel
Contain an open circulatory system with haemolymph is pumped by a heart through a dorsal artery into the blood sinuses where organs are bathed
Have a hardened cuticle which provides support, protection and internal muscle attachment
Segmented like annelids
Fusion of segments allowing different body regions to specialize for different functions
Use joined appendages, complex digestive system and have a ventral nerv cord with segmental ganglia
