Lecture 7 Flashcards
The null hypothesis as an assumption
H0, The null hypothesis the expresses the belief or assumption about the population parameter.
H1 (or Ha), The alternative hypothesis is that the belief or assumption is incorrect
The alternative as a research question
- The alternative hypothesis is the conclusion that the researcher hopes to support.
- The null hypothesis is that the research hypothesis is incorrect
Hypothesis tests
Is the data consistent with the null hypothesis?
3 test statistics with known distribution to decide the test
Lower tailed tests
Lower tailed tests is when rejection region is in the left tail of the distribution
Upper tailed test
Upper tailed tests is when the rejection region is in the right tail
Two tailed test
Two tailed tests is wen the rejection region is in both tails
hypothesis tests - sides
one sided tests and two sided tests
Significance level
the side of the rejection region
Significance level - lower
to the left in the standard normal distribution
Significance level - upper
to the right in the standard normal distribution
Significance level - two tailed
both sides för the standard normal distribution
Significance level - what are the possible levels?
Two different possible errors
Type I error
Type II error
Significance level - trade off
there is a trade off between committing a type I and type II error
Critical values and p-values
Two equivalent ways of testing hypothesis.
There are never a conflict between these two methods! result in the same conclusion.
