Lecture 6 - Territoriality Flashcards

1
Q

What is the Economic model of territoriality

A

Economic Defendability

Benefits = exclusive access to limited resources

Costs = increased chance of injury, energy expenditure, reduced foraging

Ex. Blackbirds only defend when sufficient resources are present.

Q

What size of Territory?

A

Resource economical to defend?

Who is territory being defend against?

  • Conspecifics and Heterospecifics are competitors
  • Heterospecifics differ in diet overlap.
