highly active Anti-retroviral therapy
Pregnant women with HIV
all women should be on HAART
can have a vaginal birth if viral load less than 50 HIV RNA at 36 weeks
should not breast feed
syphilis

symptoms of syphilis
primary, secondary, latent and tertiary
-primary - single chancre - firmless, painless, non-itchy ulceration
secondary syphilis
diffuse ras - palms, hands, soles of feet. sores in mouth and vagina
latent syphilis
little or no symptoms - can last for years
tertiary syphilis
gummas - soft non-cancerous growths, neurological or heart symptoms
treatment for syphilis
depends on stage of diagnosis
penicillin
