Pedigree
Pedigrees help us determine the alleles that individuals carry and the likelihood that the offspring of two individuals will exhibit a particular trait.
Helpful hints about Trait Inheritance:
Dominant
One parent must be shaded to have a shaded kid; can’t skip generations
Individuals will be affected (shaded in) when they carry one dominant allele of a dominant trait (BB or Bb)
Helpful hints about Trait Inheritance:
Recessive
The parents can be unaffected (not shaded in); can skip generations
Individuals will be affected (shaded in) when they carry two recessive alleles of a recessive trait (bb).
the probability that one or both events occur
P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B)
the probability that both events occur together
independent events: P(A and B) = P(A) * P(B)
