Lecture 6- cardiovascular immunology Flashcards
what is atherosclerosis development?
Plaque Formation (atheroma) / Plaque Rupture / Blood Clot Formation / Ischemia
what are the risk factors of cardiovascular diseases?
Permanent factors:
Age - Gender - Family history - Race
Lifestyle, social and environmental factors:
Cigarette smoking - Lack of physical exercise - Diet -Psychosocial factors (eg stress, depression, deprivation).
Coexisting conditions:
Hypertension - Diabetes - Obesity - Systemic inflammation, eg systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, periodontitis, etc.
what is coronary heart disease?
The heart gets its own supply of blood from a network of blood vessels on the heart’s surface called coronary arteries.
Coronary heart disease is the term that describes what happens when your heart’s blood supply is blocked or interrupted by a build-up of fatty substances in the coronary arteries.
what is the arterial structure?
Endothelium is a type of epithelium that lines the interior surface of blood and lymphatic vessels.
It is a thin layer of cells called endothelial cells.
The Tunica Media is made of smooth muscle cells and elastic tissue.
The Tunica Adventitia is the outermost layer of a blood vessel. It is mainly composed of collagen and vasa vasorum.
Lipids are transported in the blood in form of Lipoproteins.
how are fibrous caps formed?
Which comprises proliferation and migration of smooth muscle cells and net matrix deposition.
what is necrotic core formation?
Macrophages apoptosis promotes the development of the necrotic core.
