Q

area v1 is renotopic, what does this mean

A

it means that the retina is mapped spatially onto the primary visual cortex

Q

what is cortical magnification?

A

the fovea is is mapped to a larger area of the visual cortex compared to peripheral vision

Q

what do occular domance columbs look like?

A

they are alternating stripes across the visual cortex from th left and rigth eyes

equivalent representations of visual fields from each eye brought together in area v1

Q

what is the structure of orientation coulms

A

neurones with arintaion seslcetive receptive feilds are organisesd into colombs
they are preceisiy organised, there is an orderly shift in axis of orintation from one coloum to the next
and they are arranged perpendicular to ocular dominance columns

16
Q

where does the inferoior temporal cortex have stong conntions to?

A

the medual tmeporal lobe - long term memory
and limbic system - emotion

17
Q

what does damage to the inferior temporal cortex lead to?

A

depending on where the damage is can lead to two types of visual agnosia
aperceptive- where there is an inability to copy or match objects - no intergaration of visual features

associative - where there is an inailty to intepret underand or assign meaning to objects.

18
Q

what pathway does the intraparietal cortex belong to?

A

the Dorsal pathway

19
Q

what is the intraparietal cortex important for?

A

reaching and grasping with hands
directing eye movements - eye movement signals are subtracted from nural signal - spacial consincty and so allows us to have a stable veiw of the world dispite eye movemnts.

20
Q

what does damage to the intraparital cortex look like?

A

Hemi-neglect of the left visual field - this only occurs with damage to the right lobe as the right parietal cortex sees the whole visual field (inter-hemispheric connections) where as the left only sees the right.

21
Q

what is a bottom up process?

A

external -sensory information

22
Q

what is a top down process?

A

uses internal (endogenous) information

23
Q

what is interpretation of visual information influenced by?

A

Expectation
