lecture 6 Flashcards
what is the ventral pathway ?
the what pathway object recognistion
what is the dorsal pathway?
the where pathway
area v1 is renotopic, what does this mean
it means that the retina is mapped spatially onto the primary visual cortex
what is cortical magnification?
the fovea is is mapped to a larger area of the visual cortex compared to peripheral vision
what do ocular domanace couloms processes in the visual cortex?
they process binocular information
what do orientation columns process in the visual cortex?
they process orientation
what do blobs process in the visual system?
colour
what do occular domance columbs look like?
they are alternating stripes across the visual cortex from th left and rigth eyes
equivalent representations of visual fields from each eye brought together in area v1
what happens to ocuular visual columbs if one eye has visual deprivation?
one set of columbs shrinks .
what can cause lack of vison in one eye?
amblyopia
what is the structure of orientation coulms
neurones with arintaion seslcetive receptive feilds are organisesd into colombs
they are preceisiy organised, there is an orderly shift in axis of orintation from one coloum to the next
and they are arranged perpendicular to ocular dominance columns
what visual features are coded by area V1
contrast
line orientation
brightness
colour
movement
disparity
what pathway is the inferior temporal cortex part of?
end of the ventral pathway
what does the inferor temporal cortex mainly get inputs form
the fovea, high acuity and colour vison
what is the funtion of the inferior temporal cortex?
recogniding and identifying objects
allocating salience to objects to direct attention
