Lecture 5 - The Tree of Life Flashcards
4 (Technically 5) Hypotheses on the origin of life
- Special creation hypothesis
- Interplanetary or Cosmozoic hypothesis
- Spontaneous generation hypothesis
- Biogeochemical hypothesis
* Oparin-Haldane hypothesis
* RNA world hypothesis
Hypothesis involving myths that vary across cultures.
Overall say life was created by a supernatural being or divine forces. Based on faith and cannot be subjected to scientific inquiry or tested in a lab.
Special Creation Hypotheses

Panspermia
Refers to the deliberate seeding of life on Earth by intelligent beings
Directed panspermia
Hypothesis that states living organisms could develop spontaneously from non-living matter
Spontaneous Generation Hypothesis
