Lecture 5: Electricity Flashcards
What is the electricity charge measured in
Coulombs
D.C current
One constant direction
On a voltage/time graph its a straight line
A.C current
Reverses periodically
What’s the equation for Ohms law
V= I R
I is current in Amps
R is the electrical resistance
How do you calculate the Resistance in a parallel circuit
Total sum of all resistors
How do you calculate the resistance in a parallel circuit
1 / 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3
How would you calculate resistance in a circuit that is part parallel and part circuit
Use separate methods to work out each resistance for each part and then add those 2 values
What’s important to remember about parallel CIRCUIT
Have same voltage DIFF CURRENT
What’s a Diode
Only allow current to flow in one direction
P-type and n-type= p-n junction
Semiconducting
What’s a Passive component
Doesn’t have a power gain
Store energy or dissipate it as heat
Don’t require ann external power supply
What’s a Active Component
Introduce extra power into a circuit
Output more power than they receive
Require an external power supply to amplify
How do you find the resistance to colour band resistors
1st digit - first colour
2nd digit- second colour
3rd colour- is the multiplier
4th colour- the tolerance
