Lecture 5 Flashcards
What is learning?
Process of acquiring new information or behaviour
What is behaviourism?
A reaction to psychodynamic theory, which is based on unseen forces and is untestable
What does behaviourism do?
Focuses on observable behaviour
What is associative learning?
Learning that certain events occur together
Associative learning is also…?
Two or more stimuli that are linked
AND
It helps us to anticipate future events. Ex., theme show, then show
What is serendipity?
Observation during a study on gastric secretions
What is: US UR NS CS CR?
US = Unconditioned stimulus (burger) UR = Unconditioned response (drooling) NS = Neutral stimulus (logo) CS = Conditioned stimulus (logo) CR = Conditioned response (drooling)
Explain Unconditioned
Normal stimulus + Response
Explain Conditioned
This is the result of association
NS + US = CS, leading to the CR
Something to remember about the CR and UR
CR = UR! you get the same response
the only difference is something elicited it.
