What did John Watson believe?
He was an extreme supporter of nurture. He believed babies are born with nothing and they can become anything.
- This idea is called “THE BLANK STATE “
The good part of the blank state idea
All people are born at the same position and have equal rights. Supports liberty and equality
The bad part of the Blank state idea
1-For years psychologists obsessed over kids’ sexual experiences and infamously blamed the parents.
2-Blank space helped with the idea that culture, science, and technology are the cause of all issues in modern society.
Konrad Lorenz
1-He believed in the “HARD WIRED” idea
2-He believed that Nature had the most significant impact on one’s personality. He worked for the Nazi’s office and detect through people whether if they had the genes for toughness, heroism etc. and if they didn’t he would remove them from the army.
How is “Hard wired” a idea good?
1- Better treatment for many diseases and disorders was provided.
2-It placed humans among other animals defending that environment doesn’t have an impact. This relates to environmentalism movement and animal welfare movement.
How is “Hard wired” a bad idea?
1- It caused social Darwinism, racism, and eugenics
What are the three laws of behavior genetics and what they mean?
1-All human behavioral traits are heritable
2-The effect of genes is bigger than the effect of a shared environment.
3- A Significant portion of the variation in complex human behavioral traits is not accounted by genes or family.
