A series of waves caused by the displacement of a large volume of water

What causes tsunamis?
A
- earthquakes uplifting/subsiding the sea floor
- underwater landslides
- volcano flank collapse
- submarine volcanoic explosion
- asteroids (MEGA TSUNAMI)

Where do tsunamis move the fastest?
A
Deep ocean, where the frequency of crests is large and the amplitude is small

What happens to a tsunami as it nears land?
A
Waves slow, increasing amplitude and frequency, water s pushed inland (trough may arrive first)
