Low self-esteem–> negative expectations–> low effort + high anxiety –> failure –> self-blame
What substances are associated with negative self-esteem?
- alcohol, tobacco, and drug use
What type not factors are inherent in self esteem and elicit emotions?
-physical
- social
- intellectual
What is someone’s ideal self and how is it related to one’s self-concept?
- a mental self image of what we believe we ought to be and what we are capable of becoming
- someone’s self concept is how they actually perceive themselves
- Well adjusted people have a small discrepancy between their self concept and their ideal self
- problems arise when the discrepancy ins large
What is unconditional acceptance?
- accepting oneself and others without imposing any preset
conditions for this acceptance] - ie. dissociating your physical self (your strengths and weaknesses) from your self worth
- essential for +SE
- is learned, not born with it
What is the term for the concept where someone needs to achieve a certain thing in order to be shown love and acceptance?

What is the most important virtue for self reflection?
- honesty
- honesty empowers you to succeed
- if you can be honest with yourself, you can then improve in the areas you need
