- Must have a PhD* in psychology
- Must also complete various internships with practicing clinical psychologists, write and pass an exam before becoming a certified one
- Once qualified and resistered to work they can diagnose, treat and study mental and emotional probelms
- Is a regulated term, you MUST have the above experience to become one
- Very commonly confused with related fields
*PhD - Doctor of Philosophy

- A non-regulated and non-specific term to refer to someone who provides therapy of a psychological nature
- Do NOT have to be a registered clinical psychologist or have any prior experience to refer to yourself as one
- Can have anything from no degree or experience to an advanced professional degree
- Cannot diagnose emotional disorders

- Has specific training in psychoanalysis after completeing an advanced degree (usually a PhD* or MD*)
- May treat emotional disorders
*PhD - Doctor of Philosophy & *MD - Medical Degree

- Does work similar to that of a clinical psychologist but comes from a medical background instead of a psychological one
- Has an MD* and then goes on to specialize in psychiatry later on
- Takes a biological approach from a medical perspective
- Regulated term
- May diagnose emotional disorders
